Unfortunately, information technology was badly decentered. The seller told he wasn't enlightened of it, and offered me to pay the repair neb.The official canon service fixed it. I didn't expect this fossil is still serviceable, merely it is. At least the eyes alignment is bachelor. Non sure about repairs that require spare parts. Some people say this lens optical elements can fall out of alignment easily, and the slight bump is enough to make your photos blurry forever. I don't know, the fourth dimension volition show. Anyhow, this lens is sharp at any focal length. I use it wide open up without hesitation when the shallow dof is needed. 200 mm at f4 on a full frame camera can requite yous a decent subject separation. For landscapes, I use mostly f5.6 or f8, which makes the picture really tack abrupt. Metal body feels nifty. This lens makes my other mid-range non L lenses look similar a plastic garbage. The IS would be a nice thing to have, but I never missed a shot because of it so far. | | May iv, 2021 | | oldshutterhand Offline Paradigm Upload: Off Registered: Jan 24, 2012 Location: Hungary Posts: 0 | Review Date: Sep 24, 2013 | Recommend? yeah | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating:nine | Pros: | Very nice build quality, saturated colours, nice dissimilarity and sharpness, quick autofocus, nice rings, very good price | Cons: | Vignetting in total frame | | This is a very nice lens, with a very practiced sharpness, contrast and colours, with a good focal length, and quick and almost silent autofocus, i of the best bargain in the Canon line-up. Bought it to supplant a Sigma seventy-300 and information technology was a great increment in the quality of my photos. Although it is a fleck short in a FF camera, on a crop sensor has a nice tele reach for a walk around lens. Size and weight are small, as its price for the quality you lot get (both build and image quality). One affair I really appreciated coming from the Sigma was the abiding discontinuity and that the front element does not rotate. Notwithstanding, this smaller sibling is the opposite of heaviness and the moving-picture show quality is sharp even in the corners. The F4 and non-IS do not bother me because I intend to use this lens for mostly landscape and the weight allows me to carry with me on hikes or trips to abroad, and the $$ does not break the banking concern either. That beingness said, I am absolutely delighted with this lens' performance. It is incredibly abrupt, has great contrast, and very low-cal. Though IS may exist nice (i've endemic Nikon lenses with IS), I haven't found myself wanting for it in this lens. The fact is, if yous're shooting outdoors or trying to end activity, your shutter-speed needs to be college than 1/60 and therefore fast enough to end camera-shake. I tin can go precipitous results with this lens shooting at around 1/100 (but I have decently steady hands). This is a fantastic lens, and for the coin there's goose egg better.
